Haus Schöneck- Contiki Accommodation | Contiki Mini Series

Haus Schöneck is the building you stay in on the Contiki ski trip. It is a very old Austrian building used by Contiki for more than 30 years. Even some family friends stayed there in the 70’s when they were on Contiki. So considering this, the accommodation is not 4 or 5 star but that really isn’t an issue. There is so much to do during the day and night you are basically there for sleeping and showering. Most of the time you are either using the Wi-fi in the common room or having a few drinks at the bar after a long day of skiing/snowboarding.

The actual rooms are very basic. 2 bunk beds, a few chairs, shelves for clothes and a bathroom. You have the option of sharing with 3 or 1 other. I decided to share with 3 others because I was travelling solo and thought it would be a great way to meet people.

When I first arrived it was definitely interesting. I went up to my room and there was a party going on and everyone had had been drinking since mid-day because snow conditions had been pretty bad. The room was connected to another with a balcony so it was very social. Some rooms you are lucky to get a balcony with great views and it’s also a good place to cool your drink.

Because Haus Schöneck is a very old building it has very limited supply of hot water. So I would always have to carefully plan when I would shower (yes, it’s true!). Trust me, having a cold shower after a full ski day in the Austrian winter is not the most pleasant experience. Also, one thing I was nervous about in the beginning was the bathrooms not having a lock.

In Haus Schöneck there is a common room where most people would go to use wi-fi and have a coffee or hot chocolate. It was a great place to chill and talk to other travellers. There are also board games and computers.

Now to one of the most popular spots…the Bar! Was a very popular attraction in the evenings. To hear what went on in the bar you can subscribe via email or just by liking the Facebook page so you don’t miss out!
